Day 287 May 12, 2017 San Angelo to Sterling City, TX

We were not looking forward to today's ride. The forecast was for a 14 mph wind out of the north which would back through the day towards the west. Partially because of this, we got on the road late, at 11 AM.

Leaving San Angelo.

Unfortunately, it took us over an hour to get to this sign.

Yep. Wind.

Since we got such a late start, we stopped for lunch after only 17 miles, in Carlsbad, TX. This place was a real find. Good food, low prices, and our waitress was a hoot.

Sign inside the restaurant.

Bug on the outside wall of the restaurant. Can anyone identify?

We continued on US-87, pushing hard against the wind. After about eleven more miles we stopped at the Coke County Safety Rest Area. Very nice. Clean bathrooms and shaded picnic tables. We were still averaging about 9.8 mph, so this was over an hour after lunch.

The surrounding hills are getting closer.

Margaret also took a selfie today.

At any rate, we continued continuing. Pushing way too hard to go way too slow. After 4.5 hours on the bike, and six hours overall, we rolled into Sterling City and our hotel for the night.

Tough, tough day. Tomorrow we ride 45 miles to Big Spring (NOT 'Springs'), BUT the wind is forecast to be 6 to 10 mph out of the SE to SSE. I anticipate a better day. The route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/20809784
