The catch up continues. Today's ride: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/20808170
Our motel in Segovia.
Although the River Valley Motel folks were incredibly helpful and accommodating, we were not sorry to leave Segovia. We were staying at a clean, but run down motel that was 0.2 miles from an apparently failing truck stop. Nothing, NOTHING else was there.
Ride for the day. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/20808170
Once again, our day started out with gentle down hills and rolling hills approaching Junction, TX. The free breakfast at our motel in Segovia consisted of corn flakes and coffee, so we decided to stop at a McDonalds in Junction at mile 13.
Our trip into Junction.
Crossing over the Llano River into Junction.
We constantly battle to reduce what we carry along with us. In all honesty, Margaret is more invested in this battle than I, but we both do our best. In Junction we sent another box of accumulated 'stuff' back to Michigan.
Leaving Junction.
Roads in Texas have been incredible rough. No pot holes, but the road surface is what I have called rock and seal. Those of us who live in Michigan know 'chip and seal.' This is much rougher. Instead of granite chips, Texas uses larger pieces of stone. I don't know if I could ride over this on a standard upright bike.
Flowering cactus we saw along the way.
Yep, still in Hill Country.
We came upon a turkey that ran down the road with us a bit.
Finally we came to Menard, TX. Not a big town, but at least the end of the day.
We stayed at the Budget Inn Menard, which I might recommend to my worst enemy if I was particularly angry with him/her. Tomorrow we ride to Eden, and the end of our Texas Hill Country experience.
