Day 225 March 12, 2017 Vinton, LA to Evadale, TX

Note: The 1st paragraph should be read with a winey voice while periodically stamping your foot.

I was not feeling the love this morning. I had an hour less sleep today because of daylight savings time, the only coffee available was Nescafe instant (undrinkable), it was a cloudy 45 degrees outside, the wind was having a fit, and we had to cross the Sabine River. There are only two bridges available and one was I-10, so we had to take the northern bridge in Deweyville. That took us out of our way since Houston is directly west. To further complicate the day, once we crossed the Sabine, the only paved route was south through Mauriceville and then back north to get to our hotel.

Leaving Vinton was slow due to the head wind but in 8 or 9 miles we turned west. Along with being able to pick up speed, we were able to warm up a bit. We are still in bayou country so we continue to pass a lot of wet lands. One change from Florida wetlands are the Bald Cyprus trees. Were once thought they were mangroves, but not so, they are Bald Cyprus trees.

The Sabine River forms part of the borderline between Louisiana and Texas. It's 510 miles long and from what I can glean, has only 3 bridges.

Texas is our 20th state. Twenty. I cannot believe how far we've come. It does not seem like 8 months and 4500 miles have passed.

I also thought Texas would be warmer.

After lunch the sun came out giving us much needed warmth. We rode down straight flat roads into Evadale, TX. Tomorrow is predicted to be warmer (yah!) as we spin closer to Houston!
