What a difference a day makes. Yesterday we started out on highways that were down right frightening, then progressed to "historic" US Route 1, which had lots of rolling hills, but was otherwise boring. Today looked like this:
And this.
And this.
When we started out today, the manager of our motel asked if he could take our picture for his face book page. We figured it was harmless as long as he hurried; it was 41 degrees. We are so thankful for our arm and knee warmers.
When we reached the VA/NC border, we weren't sure whether we had gotten a picture of the VA border when we crossed it. (Looking back at the blog from Oct 6, we had not.) So we got pictures of both using our new selfie stick.
North Carolina had a prettier sign just up the road.
North Carolina is the 13th state we have ridden in since leaving Grand Rapids. Tomorrow we ride 34 miles to my sister and brother in law's home in Cary, NC, where we will spend a week visiting. Have I mentioned before that on this trip we intended to "smell the flowers?" We will also have a bit of an anniversary to celebrate when we get there. Our tandem will turn 13,000 miles old that day.
